A Change Has Come {And Why It Was Needed}

There is a chance that if you are reading this you are noticing that The Enthusiast looks different today. Actually, it looks very different. A change has come to The Enthusiast as all great things change, and after six years, I figured it was time for a facelift. A better look, better content, better me.

“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.” – Maya Angelou

Years and years ago, when I first chose the theme that has so commonly been associated with this blog, my mother told me you can’t consistently change things because it will confuse the audience. It’s about branding yourself. So I chose a theme I thought portrayed me at 16 years old and made little changes over time, but always keeping it within reason.

Change From Past to Future

I turned 22 this year. I have graduated college, begun my adult life, and discovered the strong woman who lies inside me. I am not the pushover I was six years ago. And as I continued to write on this blog and see a new vision for what I aspire for it to be, I saw that the brand I’d been cultivating was no longer correct. It was time for this blog to reflect me and my new goals.

This change has been a side project of mine for weeks. All of my free time has gone to thoughtfully picking out the theme, the content, and the small changes not everyone will notice. Yes, a majority of everything is still here, but what is coming in the future is more of who I am. Still quirky and enthusiastic, but a maturity that has developed inside me.

The Blog Going Forward

When I started this blog back in 2011 my sole purpose was to create a site that reflected me and the things I love. My content reflects this, with Favourites Friday posts and the new products I discover. But the theme, the marketing materials, even the way the sidebar was set up…that wasn’t reflecting what I love. The changes you see on the blog today – and for a while to come – reflect the classic yet casual way I live my life, the design that I lean toward.

I am incredibly excited for this change and for what is to come! Thank you for staying with me on this journey and for allowing me to continue to fluctuate this site as my enthusiasms change and my personality develops. This blog has become a major staple of my life and I’m overjoyed it now reflects that.

A Quick Side Note: I would like to take a moment to speak about today, Memorial Day. It is incredibly humbling to think of the people who have given their lives to protect this country. While we focus on veterans on this day, I would like for us all to think of those who have fought in our day-to-day lives. In particular think of those who lost their lives during the Portland MAX attack, Rick Best and Taliesin Myrddin Namkai-Meche, fighting to stop hate. My thoughts are with their families today.
