Blogging Struggles: To Blog, Or Not To Blog

I’ve been blogging for nearly seven years. That’s longer than most things in my life. Longer than I went to college {3 years}. Longer than I had ombré hair {2 years}. And nearly as long as it took the Harry Potter film series to come out {10 years}. And the thing is, I’m not sure how I feel about doing it anymore.

After being a consistent voice on the interweb since I was 15, there’s been a lot of content I’ve tried. From being a book blogger to a style blogger to a beauty blogger to a lifestyle blogger, it has been quite the journey. I’ve loved every minute of it.

But, it’s not always easy. I find myself struggling to come up with content that isn’t just updates from the past. I struggle to monetize, which irritates me when I’m putting money in. And I have yet to find an Instagram husband, so creating original photo content is trying. I’ve had the success of being nationally recognized several times through The Enthusiast, yet continue to churn out low numbers despite many changes to my strategy.

And this is just my struggle, that many other bloggers share.

So do I continue blogging?

There’s such a culture around blogging nowadays and I love it. I love that it’s inspired people to start businesses, to share their expertise, and to make a community of like-minded people. That’s the amazing part of it, and the reason I’m still here! Who would I be if I wasn’t sharing my new favourite conditioner or talking about anxiety? But at the same time, it does take up a lot of my time and I’m not always sure if it’s worth it anymore.

I share all of this with you – readers of the blogging community/fellow bloggers – to open a discussion. Is it really worth it for me? Or for you? At what point do we tally up our wins and losses and decide to keep blogging?

While I’m not saying goodbye – and I don’t ever want to – I’m really thinking about what pros and cons blogging adds to my already crazy life {executive assistant & marketing director, trying to date, trying to make friends, Junior League, family time, etc.} and making a serious decision to better my life.

Thank you for reading this pretty personal post that definitely differs from the normal fun of The Enthusiast. I’ll see you Friday for more favourites.
