Happy Independence Day!
Today is one of those days that is just for Americans. Sure, other countries have similar holidays or something to the extent, but only us U.S.A.ers get to enjoy this day.
It’s sort of like Thanksgiving. Only Americans have Thanksgiving, since the Pilgrims only landed on America. And we only have the 4th of July because only we signed our independence in pen on July 4th, 1776.
Now, the funny part of this holiday is this. People always make fun of the British. Bad teeth, terrible food, and crummy weather. But, if we hadn’t sailed on the Mayflower (Thanksgiving) to America and claimed it and then later decided to gain independence from Britain, we’d still be there. Yes, we’d be bad teethed British people.
But I’m not complaining. I’d love to be British. They have incredible accents.
Today is such a huge part of our country. We wouldn’t be the people we are without all of the people who took our their quill pens and signed that piece of paper. I think that is so cool that someone just thought one day, “Let’s just be our own country.” and we made it into what it is today.
So, let’s celebrate a day where we gained our independence from the British and became our own country! And we can eat hamburgers and hotdogs and Granny’s apple pie!
