How I Spice Up Instant Ramen

While we typically think as instant ramen as fit for only college students, they make a quick, easy pantry staple in my house. And while I enjoy the real thing at the various ramen houses across Portland, the 5-minute version is good for a regular Tuesday night.

A few weeks ago I shared on my Instagram stories my instant ramen dinner. Instantly my direct messages were filled with people needing to know what was in my noodles. And now I’m sharing my secrets.

The above photo is a pretty typical ramen meal for me. It takes about 10 minutes to make, super filling, extremely inexpensive, and will make your college ramen days weep. All you need is:

  1. Instant ramen {shrimp flavor}

  2. 1/4 bag of frozen cooked shrimp

  3. 2 tsp minced garlic

  4. Hoisin sauce

  5. Frozen veggies

  6. Egg

It totals about $6 per meal. Cheap, right? And to make it is super, super simple:

  1. Cook ramen, shrimp, and veggies according to package (I sauté my shrimp with the garlic). Stir ramen seasoning into noodles.

  2. Soft-boil egg and peel off shell.

  3. Add ramen with broth into bowl. Add hoisin sauce to taste and stir in.

  4. Add veggies, shrimp, and egg on top.

  5. Bon appétit!

It creates the creamiest, most savory ramen. I almost forget that it comes in a tiny packet. And now you can have this treat all for yourself!
