One of my favourite things to do when getting ready with friends is look inside their makeup bag. You never know what hidden gem you didn’t know you needed will be in there. And while I’m usually the one recommending products, if I see an intriguing blush in your bag, I’m probably going to buy it.
To give you all that same feeling, I opened up my everyday makeup bag and reviewed everything in it. And for such a tiny bag, I can fit a lot in there! Here’s the good, bad, and ugly of my makeup bag:
I use this more as a tinted moisturizer for when I want really light coverage. Probably won’t repurchase, but leaves skin looking very dewy and healthy without a lot of shine.
This will make the oiliest of foundations matte. I’ve been gravitating toward this on no makeup days to blot off any shine and it really works. Also really good for keeping my makeup in place for events – although I need setting spray if I’m sweating.
Colored concealers make me very nervous, but I’m attempting to add them into my regimen. I mix the green with tinted moisturizer to hide redness, and dab teeny amounts of the peach under my eyes when I don’t sleep. Not sure if they’re doing much, but I like to pretend.
Used this a handful of times and it’s not bad, but I really can’t say it’s benefitting my foundation either. Goes on very smooth. I have a sample and will not be purchasing the full-size.
For $6, this powder will be repurchased until they stick me in a coffin. It soaks up oil, blurs imperfections, gives skin a healthy appearance, and stays for hours. I wish I could apply it to my life.
Ever since a dermatologist recommended this to me, this is my go-to for foundation. Goes on the skin so nicely, you can build coverage, doesn’t clog pores, and is great for sensitive skin. I’m not usually one for buying $45 makeup, but this is always worth the money. And it lasts quite a long time, I’ve only repurchased 3 times since March 2018.
I’ve tried a lot of concealers, and this is the only one that 1) doesn’t cake 2) has a wand that makes it easy to apply 3) comes in a variety of shades and 4) makes me look like I actually sleep. I will usually switch up concealers because paying so much gives me hives, but I always come back to my NARS.
I got this as a sample, and really haven’t been all that impressed. It’s such a cult-favourite, but I find it just as effective as my tarte or e.l.f. powders. I still use it fairly often and like it, but my $6 powder might be just as good.
A steal from another friend’s makeup bag, I am very impressed with this primer. It’s a little darker than my skin tone (I am an actual ghost), but I find that applying it under my Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer makes it so that my makeup matches my skin, but the primer hides EVERY imperfection. I also mixed it with my tinted moisturizer this summer and it gave me a nice bronzy glow. I’ve repurchased twice and probably will again.
I like this blush because it gives a really nice hint of colour that is natural, but sparkling. It also makes a great eyeshadow palette when you’re in a bind. I’ve been bringing this when I’m traveling and double-dipping with both cheek and eye colour and I’m teaching this trick to everyone I know.
I bought this palette in college. At this point I’m just trying to use it up because it’s waaaaaay too dark for me. The bronzer I have been using the teensiest amount to add colour to my face, and the blush has never been used (it can be seen from space). I like the highlighter and like to apply a little to the inner corner of my eyes on tired days.
There’s a reason this is a cult-favourite and why I wear it pretty much every time I wear makeup.
This highlighter is a highlighter/blush in one as far as I’m concerned and makes it very easy to throw into a bag and call it a day. Love the high colour concentration and how it makes me look like a Kardashian.
This colour is sold out.
I received this palette as a gift from Sleek and, unlike many makeup gifts I receive, actually use it pretty regularly. The shades are simple enough to wear on the regular. The packaging isn’t incredible, but I bet a single pot would be great.
As you can see, this thing is PACKED with just about everything
Every time I wear this I get so many compliments. As a girl with smaller eyes, this brightens everything up and makes you look wide awake. The pencil style makes it really easy to apply to, so it’s not very intimidating. Just make sure to blend!
This is the best mascara that ever existed and almost every girl I know owns it. It separates out every lash perfectly, and the buildable formula easily makes it go from day to night. I have purchased this so many times.
I discovered this on Cupcakes & Cashmere when it won their mascara competition. It perfectly separates every lash, adds volume, and conditions lashes. Goes from day to night depending on application, and I like to wear it on days my lashes feel thin since it pumps them up so much.
For a $2 pencil, this thing works. I’m still on the market for a brow pencil, but this one does a great job of naturally filling in my brows at a lower price point.
The only eyeshadow palette I own and probably the only one I ever will. The neutral, rosy-tinted palette goes with every look and blends so incredibly I can never go back. Almost every one of my friends who has seen it has bought it, and there are no regrets.
A friend recommendation, I’m still on the fence about this. I have tried applying a few different ways, but have yet to find one that I love.
Not a huge fan of this mascara, but good for darkening lashes if I don’t want to spend time on my lashes. Like that it’s mineral infused so that I feel like my lashes are getting some love.
The best brow gel! Fills in and plumps up, leaving my brows looking full and groomed. When in doubt, I always have this on.
I was gifted this a while ago and tossed it aside because I liked my other mascaras. But now I’m obsessed! It takes a little time to perfectly build, but this makes my lashes look a mile long and fuller than my hair. I haven’t seen any streaking over this summer, so I’m going to say it’s the best mascara for those hot summer night events.
I bought this mascara as an impulse buy when needing to meet shipping requirements. It’s a decent formula, and the twisting brush is actually really nice for finding the perfect eye look. My go-to is using Twist #1 first to define my lashes, and then finishing up with Twist #3 to give it some wow! Probably will not be repurchasing this, but have enjoyed using it.
When I first get my eyebrows waxed I never really need any product to get them looking amazing. But because my brow hairs naturally point down, they look like little dimples without something to keep them in place. I love how natural and light this tint is, and that it takes a second to dry so you can use a spoolie to spread it evenly. Wish it came in clear, but fingers crossed for the future!
My go-to colour for needing something a little darker. Pretty sheer, but a great purple-ish colour that still looks very neutral.
Not a fan of this, but I paid for it so it’s staying in my bag. Goes on very nice and matte, and very easy to apply, but the corners never end up as sharp as I’d like and it ends up fading odd and is hard to remove.
The best lip product ever. I get endless compliments on this unique pink-y colour, and the staying power is crazy. I always have this in my makeup bag, or purse, or travel case just because it’s so good for every occasion.
A cute, but simple colour made for when you just need a little something and don’t want to think about it.
I live for these lip pencils. I love how natural this looks on my lips, I almost forget I’m wearing anything when I look in the mirror. If you love a freshly bitten pink lip, here you are.
The last two times I wore this pencil I mistook it for my natural lip colour. If only my lips were that matte! It makes you look effortlessly put together, with the perfect pink-brown shade for any occasion.
