It’s Movie Monday again on Everyday Enthusiasm, and this one’s going to prepare you for a special day this week: Date night.
My boyfriend is back in town from his summer job, which means I get to have date night again! And instead of fancy dinners or dressing up, my perfect idea for date night is sweats, popcorn, and a movie playing. Yes, I’m one of those people.
And that’s why this week’s Movie Monday is centered on movies that I think are perfect for date night, or really any night. If you want to see more of my writing on date night movies, click here to see my article on Her Campus.
Grab Your Popcorn, Date Night is Here!
Tina Fey and Steve Carrell make the perfect comedy couple in this wonky take on date night. From insane car chases to wonky dancing to making sure the kids are safe in bed, it’s impossible not to be entertained. And the underlying theme of being happy in your relationship without all the bells and whistles is adorable. Top pick.
Into the Woods
A great choice because almost everyone grew up with fairy tales. And Chris Pine sings, so that’s a must-watch. This fantastical musical is long and gruesome in places, but is entertaining and very well done. Just make sure to keep a light on for the giant scenes.
She’s the Man
Any movie with pre-crazy Amanda Bynes in it is a great date night movie. She’s the Man is a great choice because it’s got feminism and soccer and comedy and Channing Tatum pushing a tampon up his nose. All couples are going to have a real hoot and can practice their own tampon nose bleeds together.
There’s something about watching the mental anguish of a sarcastic pregnant teenager that is just great for date night. If you’re one of those couples that doesn’t like romantic comedies, this is a great pick for you. It’s got a little something for everyone, and if you don’t like the plot, just listen to everything that comes out of Juno’s mouth. Gold.
Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn pair up once again for another hilarious adventure. Every time I have watched this movie with someone we have laughed so hard our guts hurt, and it’s made for a lovely evening – romantic or not. The Internship is a great film for couples who don’t want a romantic movie or who just like to watch something entertaining while they do…other things…
Like make nachos.
