Everyday Enthusiasm Day 15: Musing Mondays
Hola Enthusiasts! I am back and in action after a seriously awesome vacation! My face broke out, I gained weight from onion rings, and my feet hurt from so much walking. So you know it was a good holiday!
If you live under a rock, you may be unaware of where I’ve been the past few days: LA. My bestest buddies and I decided (okay, there were 9 months of planning) to head down to LA for a few days of intense awesomeness. There was making enemies with fangirls, seeing a handful of amazing artists in six hours, and spending way too much time in airports. Pretty much the perfect vacation, huh? So, in true Musing Mondays fashion, I am going to be reflecting on this wondrous holiday in a play-by-play of my LA trip. (Warning: this post is ridiculously full of info, so sorry in advance for writing a novel. I promise it’s in equal awesomeness to Hunger Games.)
Cali Trip 2k14 (aka, the time I spent a lot of time with attractive boys on stage)
Wednesday was the day it all kicked off! A 3am wake up call started the day for a car trip with the ever favourite Alex. The morning was uneventful, unless you count me kneeling in a dress scrambling to find my plastic liquids bag, or the TSA agent delivering me my scarf in a doggie bowl.
During our layover, we met up with the rest of our girlies for our flight to California. They are kind of my favourites.
Left to right: Miranda, Kelsi, yours truly, Estefany, Alex. We actually all look decent.
The best part of the plane ride was the girls behind us. About ten minutes before landing, my friend leaned across the aisle and told me to check out the girl behind me’s shirt. She was wearing a 5SOS shirt saying, “I Prefer the Drummer” and y’all know Ashton Irwin is mine because he is adorable and all that. And so of course we all were making comments about how this girl was stealing my man, but I think she and her friend and her parents all thought we were bad mouthing them. So lots of awkward glares from them for the rest of the flight, and in the airport bathroom! You know me, making fangirl enemies one band drummer at a time…
Upon arriving in Pasadena (fun fact: I was born in Pasadena!) we immediately took off for food and shopping! It wasn’t too exciting (because, let’s be honest, food and shopping is pretty boring to listen to) but if you like some trivia, the Cheesecake Factory we found ourselves stuffing our faces in is actually the same building where my parents met. Yep, life is funny that way!
Thursday (aka, the doozy day)
Since Thursday was possibly the busiest day of my life (and take in mind I was awake for 36-hour day in Belgium once) I’ve divided it into subsections of what we did/what artist we were watching. Hope it makes it easier to understand.
Hollywood Walk of Fame
We started our morning (after a yummy breakfast of French food) at the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Ever since we figured out we wanted to go to Hollywood I’ve been highly anticipating the Walk of Fame. You all know me, and you all know how obsessed I am with celebrities. Here are some of my favourite stars I came across.
Let’s be real, the idea of a celebrity wax museum is cooler than anything. And despite the fact that the whole time you feel like you’re in a room full of people (when only a fourth of them are actually breathing) is creepy, going to Madame Tussaud’s is awesome! I got some pretty rad pictures with some faves, so let’s give those a look!
Rose Bowl time!
So, between 4pm and 11pm, I had the pleasure of seeing plenty of artists. It was amazing the amount of rocking music I was able to hear. It was truly a night of fantastic music and too many pre-pubescent girls wearing crop tops.
Bea Miller (x)
Okay, so I’ve kind of been obsessed with Bea Miller for a little while. When we found out that Bea was performing, we knew we had to make it! She gave such an amazing performance and she sounds even better live! Getting to see Bea was just AHHHHH!
Jamie Scott (x)
I’ll be honest, I’d never heard of Jamie Scott before the concert. But two minutes into his performance and I was already hooked. His mesmerizing eyes aside, Jamie’s voice just rocks and I need it to be on the soundtrack of my life. Listening to him live (where he sounded amazing!) convinced me to pre-order his album and you definitely need to too! He’s definitely on my list of faves this week!
5 Seconds of Summer (x)
Yes, I did indeed spend time with my favourite Australian foursome. As you know from this and this, I am obsessed with this band and getting to see them live was pure perfection! Because I don’t have proper words to describe my excitement and love and all, here is a compilation of my tweets to describe how perfect it all was.

One Direction (x)
Yep, this 19-year-old university student paid a whole lot of money to see One Direction. Actually, the whole center point of our trip was to see One Direction at the Rose Bowl. And you know what, it was totally worth it!
A year ago five small town girls decided to remake One Direction music videos. Those five girls just saw said band and it was amazing!! — Morgan Hegarty (@PotatoesHegarty) September 12, 2014
The boys were amazing and they sound so great live! Judge me all you want, I want to see them again so bad! It was the most fun thing in the world listening to the band you obsessed over in high school with your best friends who equally obsessed and just rocking away with fireworks going off. I wouldn’t have traded a minute. One Direction is definitely a concert everyone needs to go to at least once.

He wanted cotton candy. I would have gotten him some…
Friday was possibly the most uneventful day after how amazing Thursday was. We were all pretty exhausted (and without voices) from hardcore rocking the night before. Plus, on the bus I heard a girl say that 5SOS had switched to our hotel, so we all were having mini heart attacks on the way to the hotel the night before.
And no, I did not share a hotel with Ashton Irwin. Thanks for reminding me.

Sad to be leaving Cali because so many good memories. But I miss having consistent wifi. So arrivederci, California! — Morgan Hegarty (@PotatoesHegarty) September 12, 2014
Friday was spent packing up, sitting in a crowded hotel dining room with large groups of teenage girls wearing 5SOS/1D shirts. And trust me, if I am ever in that situation again, I now know how to maneuver them expertly. Flying home was bittersweet. Yeah, overall an uneventful day. We didn’t even run into our fangirl enemies from the way there.
Yeah, I think this is an appropriate place to end this absurdly long post. Hopefully you’ve enjoyed reading and are a bit more educated on how I spent my last week. It truly was one of the best trips I have ever taken. I was able to hear so many amazing artists, spend time with my best friends (who all go to different universities), and spend time in California, my favourite state. And if you’re a family member, I think this counts as my Christmas card, don’t ya think?
Thanks so much for reading and check back tomorrow for Talk About It Tuesday where we’ll discuss all the preparation for this trip you’ve just read about!
