My 10-Minute Makeup Routine

Makeup is one of those things where I wish I didn’t have to do it, but I love it at the same time. For nights out I enjoy the process of blending eyeshadow and applying highlighter. But when I’m getting at 6am, the idea of putting just foundation on is daunting.

In high school, my entire beauty process was a layer of BareMinerals powder and maybe mascara. Five years later, my makeup bag fills a whole drawer in my bathroom. I’ve discovered eyebrow products and bronzer and don’t even get me started on creme blush. However, despite my love of these products, I just don’t have time in the morning to apply them all.

For work it’s important that I look put together, as I’m meeting with clients and vendors at least a few times a week. That’s why I have perfected my 10-minute makeup routine, for a professional, fresh look that takes barely any time. And it’s affordable for almost every makeup bag.

Running Late? A 10-Minute Makeup Routine

The most important part of makeup is skincare, so check out my skincare routine for tips on a clean canvas.

Step One: Face

time: 3-4 minutes

Before anything, I always apply moisturizer because it will always be the saving face of the beauty game. Lately I have been using First Aid Beauty Priming Moisturizer {pore perfecting, priming, skin smoothing, and leaves a great dewy finish} which is a good 2-in-1 for skin and makeup prep.

Next I apply a lightweight, light-to-medium coverage BB cream to help even out skin tone while keeping that bright, dewy look. I’ve been using CoverGirl Clean Matte BB Cream forever now and not once has it made my skin look tired or dry. After application I set with powder, like e.l.f. Cosmetics HD Finishing Powder.

 Step Two: Eyes

time: 3-4 minutes

After applying Clinique All About Eyes and e.l.f. Cosmetics Eye Refresh my next step is to apply a light smattering of shadow, usually a light taupe/brown to help define the eyes. My go-to has been Smarty Pants from this palette.

Next I apply either L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara {more natural} or Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara {more heavy} for a wide-eyed look.

Step Three: Brows

time: 2 minutes

My brows have definitely become a staple of my look. I like mine to feel full, and to stay in place throughout the day.

I fill in with Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Medium Brown and use NYX Brow Mascara for all-day hold and a bit of colour. If you have thick brows but have sparse hairs in places, this routine has been amazing for me.

Step Four: Finishing Touches

time: 1 minute

I often will skip Step Four since the first three steps cover everything. But if I have the time I’ll use this to quickly add colour to my face.

  1. A quick sweep of e.l.f. Cosmetics Rose Royalty on my cheeks

  2. A pop of Laura Gellar Ballerina on my cheekbones

  3. A swipe of Fresh Rosé for a pop of rosy colour
