My Current Skincare Routine 2019

There’s nothing better than looking in the mirror and liking your skin. I went in for a facial for the first time in forever last week and found out that – for the first time ever – my extreme acne and congestion is no more. Actually, my facialist complimented me on how great my skin is. I’ve struggled with crappy skin my entire life, but after doing the research and switching over my routine, I’m seeing results I love.

I spend a lot of time researching and testing (seriously, my bathroom is a miniature Ulta) and with some tweaks, I’ve found something that works for me. For reference, I have oily combination skin that’s very sensitive with a hint of rosacea. My main concerns are acne, texture, and scarring. And while I have a while to go for perfection, this routine has gotten me farther than years of product testing ever did. All skin is different, so I highly recommend playing around to get your regime, but this system could be a great start!

My {Best Yet} Skincare Routine

Morning

Warm Water Wash – I start my morning off by just rinsing off my face with warm water and a wash cloth. It wipes off anything from overnight and leaves my skin feeling nice and free. I’ve noticed a huge difference since skipping cleanser in the morning.

Eye Cream / Clinique – You are never too young to use eye cream. I’m a notorious insomniac who regularly wakes up at 4am and can’t fall back asleep. A little bit of this rich eye cream keeps me looking like I got a fresh 8 hours.

Snail Mucin / Cosrx – This is the grossest beauty product, but one I swear by! Snail mucin regulates skin moisture, which is phenomenal when you have combination skin like me. Since adding this to my routine I’ve noticed my skin feels less like a potato fryer at the end of the day, and I barely have dry skin. I’ve also found it’s kept my foundation looking more fresh throughout the day compared to my old moisturizers.

Moisturizer / Dermalogica – This is newer to my routine and was recommended to me by my facialist (after reading tons of amazing reviews). I have extremely red skin and everything makes it worse. This velvety gel helps protect the lipids and stop environmental factors increasing the redness. Since I started using it I’ve noticed how less red my face looks throughout the day, which is great as I don’t wear makeup as often but don’t want to look like Rudolph’s nose.

Evening

Cleanser / CeraVe – After removing my makeup, I lather on this foaming cleanser to get all the dirt and oil out of my pores. I love this one because it’s non-drying and always leaves my face feeling fresh and new.

Toner / Pixi – This toner helps get everything else out of my skin while also exfoliating and brightening up my complexion. It’s kind to my sensitive skin and I can see the difference it’s making to my acne scars.

Lactic Acid / The Ordinary – This has been my holy grail product for getting rid of my nasty breakout skin. Gentle enough to not cause irritation, using just a little every night has drastically gotten rid of my acne, scarring, and textural issues.

Brightening Duo / The Ordinary / Way of Will – I love both these products (Azelaic acid & brightening serum), but was having a hard time applying them both to my face for even coverage. And then I mixed them together and found a brightening duo that sinks into the skin like butter and makes my skin look bright and happy.

Ascorbic Acid / The Ordinary – Another product I swear by, this acid goes on a little thick and will heat up your skin, but it really works. Since adding it to my routine I’ve seen the texture on my cheeks slowly start to look less like moon craters. It takes a while to soak in, but I just take my night vitamins while I wait.

Eye Cream / The Ordinary – While I love my Clinique, I’m also a big fan of this caffeine solution. A little goes a long way. I prefer to use at night because it doesn’t soak in right away, but it does a great job of taking away any puffiness.

Moisturizer / CeraVe – Because my routine is pretty extreme – it’s doing a lot to fix years of skin allergies and breakouts – I need to give it a lot of extra love after to keep it from drying out. I love this rich, creamy moisturizer and how it just sinks into my skin. If I need extra TLC I’ll fix a drop or two of jojoba oil, but by itself it makes my skin feel amazing and ready for bed.

Weekly/Bi-Weekly/As Needed

Face Mask / Kiehl’s / Fresh – I love a good face mask. I try to mask every few days and generally go for renewing or clarifying formulas. I believe having one good clay mask and one good soothing mask makes for a great skin routine.

Salicylic Acid / The Ordinary – When I do get breakouts, I just dab a little of this on it and by the next day it’s bye bye blemish.

Scrub / Kiehl’s – I’ve been looking into Microdermabrasion for a while now, but before I put down that much cash I wanted to see if I could find an alternative. I love this scrub SO MUCH and within a few uses I’ve seen such a difference. I only use it twice a week and damn, does it make my face look good.
