Winter is finally upon us. How do I know? The thick film of frost on my car this morning that took 10 minutes to defrost.
But more than adding 10 minutes to my morning schedule is the havoc that winter weather adds to my beauty routine. It’s time to change it up! More moisturizer, less bronzer, change up the blush, going down a foundation shade…it’s kind of a hassle. But no fear, The Enthusiast is here!
It’s time to dive into winter beauty! And as you’ll notice, for me, the natural look is in this wintery season.
Winter Beauty Essentials: The Enthusiast’s Guide
Because winter is a haven for chapped lips, I tend to avoid darker lips because I know just how quickly that go wrong. So going for a soft pink means a great impact with less noticeable mistakes. I love stila’s Stay-All-Day Liquid Lipstick in Pantina because it really does stay all the day and the color is truly beautiful.
Nothing says “I just spent today in the snow and feel great” than soft, tousled waves filled with snowflakes. Using a wider barrel (for medium-length hair I use a 1.25″ barrel) curl hair and brush out for a look that seems natural and gives a little glam.
I’ve been completely obsessed with my tarte Tartelette in Bloom Clay eyeshadow palette. I can’t imagine leaving the house without it. The palette is filled with gorgeous neutral colours that I can play around with for dramatic or more simple looks. My favourite has been to apply Smarty Pants all over the lid for the subtle hint of colour it gives my eyes.
Exfoliate. Moisturize. Use foundation with a hint of luminous highlighter. It isn’t hard to have glowing skin. The biggest trick this time of year is to exfoliate. I love Skinfood’s Black Sugar Mask for a deep scrub that helps skin look brand new.
Even when winter is having the worst effect on your look, your brows can always look good. Splurge a bit and get them professionally done (and tip them well!) for great brows, and do maintenance weekly. And when they need an extra push, use brow gel to keep them nicely groomed. I am a huge lover of Benefit Cosmetic’s Gimme Brow because it fills in brows while keeping them in place all day.
There’s something about winter that makes me feel innocent. And I like to play that up with my lashes. Using a mascara that focuses more on volume and clump-free than drama or curl, like CoverGirl Clump Crusher mascara, creates a soft look on your lashes that makes you look straight out of an Elizabethan novel.
This look is the embodiment of what this whole post is going on about.
While fall was about switching to a dark blush, for winter I love to look naturally flushed. Using a light pink or peach blush, such as Lancome’s Blush Subtil in Sheer Amourose, makes you look like you’ve been playing in the snow all day instead of sitting in your car drinking Starbucks.
