Talk About It Tuesdays 1: Veggies & Low Carb

Everyday Enthusiasm Day 2: Talk About It Tuesdays

Talk About It Tuesdays

On Talk About It Tuesdays, I like to discuss topics that we’re all going to have different feelings on. This week we’re going to discuss going vegetarian and low carb.

Last week I decided to see if I could go without meat and with little carbs in my diet. And I did it. And I loved it.

Growing up in SoCal, the usual meal of my childhood was tritip steak, bread, and salad. Every time we have guests for dinner this is what we have. Which means that meat and bread are kind of my staple foods. And eliminating them from my diet always seemed impossible because what else was I supposed to eat?

After making the decision to revise my diet, I really had to figure out how to feed myself. For years now my mom and I have had the discussion of me eating healthier (I eat like a teenage boy without the fast metabolism) and now that I had made the decision, I didn’t know what to eat. But I found that it wasn’t so much about finding new foods to eat, as to finding meals to replace where I normally would eat meat or bread. It made the whole process easier.

Everyone has different views on the various ways to eat. Carnivore, vegetarian, pescetarian, vegan, etc. People like my dad can’t even imagine giving up meat. One of my best friends is vegetarian and freaks if her food touches meat. Plenty of people at my school are vegan and manage to go without animal products with no hassle. Everyone feeds their stomach in different ways due to various needs and it causes issues. But it shouldn’t. Just because I would rather eat broccoli and rice doesn’t mean I’m going to judge you on your steak and potatoes.

Deciding to stop eating meat and lots of carbs has been one of the best decisions of my life. I feel healthier and more energetic. I get excited about coming up with interesting new recipes. My body feels lighter and more comfortable in clothes. These are the changes I’ve wanted for forever and it’s made me so glad that I’ve decided to change my lifestyle. Some people may not understand, but this is what makes me happy, so I’m going to stick to it.

And if steak makes you happy, go for it!

Eat the things that make you happiest and make your tummy smile. Don’t let anyone make you feel bad for what you decide is best for your body. I’m happy with what I’m feeding myself. Are you?

Thanks so much for reading the first Talk About It Tuesday! I hope you enjoyed reading it. If you’re interested to see what I’ve been feeding myself on my new diet, please comment below and I will make a post of my groceries.

Remember to check back tomorrow for Welcome Wednesdays, where a good friend of mine from uni will be chatting about her loves!
