The last few weeks have had me mulling over what is important in my life. There have been some rough patches, but I always get over them. Why? Because I have an amazing group of people who are there to support me.
I had a bit of a…tough day at school and it was one of those moments where you just want to crawl in a hole. We all have them, don’t deny it. My best friend came up to me and saw how downtrodden I looked and asked what was wrong. I explained to her and she looked me right in the eyes and said, “Morgan, I love you, you know that right?” I nodded at her and she continued, “Look around you. See all these people surrounding us?” She gestured to our friends, who were in the process of setting themselves up for the assembly. My friend Alex sat in front of me and relaxed against my shins, looking up to smile at me. “These people all love you too. You are surrounded by a group of people who love and support you and only want what is best for you. How could you possibly be unhappy?”
Great. Now I’m getting teary.
Okay, I’m kind of kidding. But seriously, I thought over what Katy said and I realized there was no reason to feel bad. I was literally surrounded (my group of friends were crammed in the bleachers all around me) by people who are genuinely there for me. And I am so thankful for them and my parents and my family. I couldn’t do anything I do without them. Which brings me to my thought of the week: The importance of support.
Whether you are trying something new or old or different or similar, to have people behind you who believe in you and want you to do your best, that is what everyone deserves. NO ONE deserves to feel like no one believes in them, that no one is there to support them. It is our human right to feel that.
So, onto another weekly Morgan challenge. Yay! Find the people in your life who support you and thank them. Tell them in person, email them, call them, write them a note and mail it to them! Show those people that they are the reason you are still here today. They’ve given you so much, the least you can do is tell them thank you.
And with that, I am off to bed! I’m returning to school after a week long Spring Break (which was much needed) and I can’t wait to see my best friend (who I haven’t seen in ages) and get started on finishing the last two months of my high school career!
Stay classy Internet,
